SATYANANDA
YOGA
Satyananda
Yoga is a comprehensive system that brings together many forms of yoga
that are applicable to everybody for the development and maintenance of
a truly balanced life.
Hatha, raja, karma and bhakti yogas are brought together to create a
platform for the development of awareness and self enquiry. This an
opportunity to explore different aspects of our personalities through
the modalities of yoga.
Paramhamsa Satyananda's teachings formed the Bihar School of Yoga (see below),
the worlds first Yoga University. These teachings can be experienced as
a living philosophy of life at the ashram of Rikhiapeeth in North East
India, the current home of Paramahamsa Satyananda (see below), and are propagated through the various international Satyananda Schools and Academies located around the world.
Within a Satyananda Yoga class postures are generally done with the
eyes closed and in time with the
rhythmic flow of the natural breath. This approach is taken to keep
your focus internalized, giving you the opportunity to gain a deep
understanding of how these practices are effecting you physically,
mentally, energetically and emotionally. Once an understanding of these effects is understood, practical application into your life
is possible, transforming the mundane into the extraordinary.
The Satyananda approach to Hatha yoga is routed in the expansion of
one's awareness. This means those recovering from sickness or injury,
those using a regular training regime, or people simply wanting to
become more integrated and aware will particularly benefit from these
classes.
To partake in Satyananda classes is to experience knowledge passed down through a lineage of Yoga Masters.
This is the first time official regular Satyananda Yoga classes have been offered in Western Canada.
